Job Description:

Responsible for the acquisition, copy cataloguing, and access of collection resources in various formats. Maintains access to electronic resources and the integrity of the online catalogue through the creation, revision, and deletion of all bibliographic and related records for all formats. Requires a thorough knowledge of library policies, procedures, and systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide orientation and show procedures to others.
  • Resolve cataloguing, classification, serials holdings record, and related problems identified by other library staff.
  • Remain current and adhere to cataloguing and metadata rules, standards, and guidelines.
  • Provide advice and training on how to find bibliographic information to library staff and patrons
  • Ensure subscriptions are renewed and paid for on an annual basis to avoid interruption to service
  • Extract, compile, organize, interpret, review, and repo1t resource use and other information from a wide variety of sources.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with vendors
  • Create new call numbers for library resources, selecting and applying the appropriate classification scheme.
  • Catalogue or metatag items using standard classification schemes, subject headings, and formats for bibliographic and authority data.
  • Monitor library resource accounts for appropriate fund availability
  • Establish new practices and guidelines for items not included in the traditional bibliographic formats.
  • Edit and maintain web pages housing digital collections.
  • Perform various analyses and reconciliations of data, records, statements, and transactions
  • Receive and inspect all library information resources
  • Create and edit digital images in several formats.
  • Determine appropriate classifications for library resources using a NLM Classification or local schemes
  • Conduct database, literature, and web searches in order to verify and update data and records
  • Review package title lists, identify migrating titles, and locate a new source for the item

Job Requirements:

  • Apply standard mathematical skills such as calculations, formulas, and equations to perform routine calculations
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Write a variety of documents including, but not limited to, formal letters, email correspondence, procedure manuals, and communication via the website and social media.

Qualification & Experience:

  • 2-year Community College diploma in Library and Information Technology or related field.
  • Resumes of applicants with 0-3 years’ experience will also be reviewed
  • Requires 3 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred
